Muscat Beaches
The Capital Area offers some of the cleanest, most stunning beaches a visitor could hope to see. Most beaches are public with access for all. Weekend picnics and barbeques are popular on the beach.
Qurum Beach
Starting below the Crowne Plaza Hotel and stretching as far as Al Khuwair,Qurum beach has a number of amenities for visitors including picnic areas, palm shades and a number of cafes. When the tide is low, a 4 km walk is possible from the Crowne Plaza to the Embassies in Shati Al-Qurum. Nearly half way along is Muscat InterContinental Hotel near which jet skis can be rented.
Marjan beach
Located near PDO, the beach is quiet during the day, but tends to get livelier in the early evenings. It has some small coral reefs, perfect for novice snorkellers since a large variety of fish and corals can be seen not too far from the shore. The beach is known locally as Turtle Beach and perhaps the biggest thrill for snorkellers is spotting a turtle which has come in to graze on the weeds on the rocks.
Bandar Jissah
Located near Qantab, the bay is protected by rocky cliffs whose underhangs and rock pools offer opportunities for exploring when the tide is out. Snorkelling is popular here. There is also a children's playground and refreshments are available. In the next bay is the Oman Dive Centre.
